National Standard Examination 2023 Brochure Released: Check Out Now

Every year, National Standard Examination (NSE) conducts a dedicated exam or screening test for students who want to participate in the national and international olympiads in different science subjects.

Just recently, the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) released a notification and brochure for the National Standard Examination 2023 (NSE 2023). There are 5 exams under NSE – NSEC, NSEP, NSEB, NSEA, and NSEJS, respectively for Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Astronomy, and Junior Science. The registration portal will open on 1st August 2023.

Are You Eligible for NSE 2023 Exam? NSE 2023 Exam Eligibility Criteria

According to the National Standard Examination 2023 brochure, the eligibility criteria for NSEP, NSEC (national standard examination in chemistry), NSEB (national standard examination in biology), and NSEA are as follows:

  1.  You must follow eligibility for holding an Indian passport.
  2. Your date of birth must lie between 1st July 2004 and 30th June 2009, inclusive of both days.
  3. You must not be completing/planning to complete your 12th board exams before 30th November 2023.
  4. You must not be enrolled in any undergraduate course or equivalent university course by 1st June 2023.
  5.  Notably, you must have been living in India since 30th November 2021 or before. OR, you must be doing schooling from an Indian school since 30th November 2021 or before.
  6. You must not appear in NSEJS 2023.

For students appearing in NSEP, NSEC, NSEB, and NSEA, the eligibility criteria are the same, but for those appearing for NSEJS (national standard examination in junior science), there are some changes in points 2,3 and 6. These changes are as follows

  •     Your date of birth must lie between 1st January 2009 and 31st December 2010 inclusive of both days.
  •     You must not be completing/planning to complete your 10th board exams before 30th November 2023.
  •     MUST NOT BE APPEARING FOR ANY OF THESE 4 EXAMS (NSEP, NSEC, NSEB, and NSEA).

Registration Process for NSEP 2023: National Standard Examination 2023 Brochure

According to the information released in the National Standard Examination 2023 Brochure, you must follow the steps to register yourself for this exam:

  •     Visit the official website of IAPT- iapt.org.in
  •     Find the registration tab and tap/click on it
  •     A student registration page will open. Fill in all the required details, viz., candidate’s name, class, gender, date of birth, father’s/mother’s name, subject, name and address of the school, and the student’s postal address.
  •     Now, generate the OTP by clicking the “GENERATE OTP” button.
  •     Complete the registration and log in using these credentials.
  •     Some documents will be required here; upload them and finally submit the form after ensuring you have entered the correct details.

NSE Registration Fee as per NSEP Brochure 2023 

For subjectwise NSE enrolment, the candidates need to pay a one-time fee (non-refundable). If the candidate qualifies for the International Olympiads, there is no need to pay any fee again. Irrespective of the category, the candidate must pay 200 rupees per subject.

NSE 2023 Exam Pattern: National Standard Examination 2023 Brochure

  •     The NSE 2023 exam paper will be completely MCQs-based and divided into 2 parts.
  •     Part 1 will have 48 MCQs with a single correct option, while Part 2 will have 12 MCQs with one or more than one correct option.
  •     Marking scheme: +3 marks for the correct answer, -1 for a wrong answer, and 0 if the candidate skips the question. There won’t be any partial marking. Thus, the total marks count to 216.
  •     Candidates can select any of these four display languages during NSE 2023 exam- Hindi, English, Gujarati, and Bangla.

Ques. 1 When will the admit card be released for the NSE 2023 exam, and where should I download it?

Ans: As per the National Standard Examination 2023 brochure, centre changing is not allowed.

Ques. 4 Which is more difficult- NSE or KVPY?

Ans: The level of questions in NSE is higher than in KVPY. This results in considerably high statewise cut-offs in NSEP.
