How NTA Calculates JEE Main Percentile Score?

For JEE Main 2026 Session 1, the B.E/B. Tech exam was conducted across 5 days in 10 shifts in January 2026. The All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main 2026 is calculated based on the final JEE Main percentile. NTA first calculates percentile scores shift-wise through the normalisation process to ensure fairness, which we have discussed above.

Candidates are arranged in descending order to generate the national merit list based on the percentiles. Students are assigned AIR based on this list. But what if two candidates secured the same percentile? In case of ties, NTA applies subject-wise and age-based tie-breaking rules. The tie-breaking rule is followed in this order:

• A higher percentile in Physics.
