AIIMS is an autonomous statutory body that works as an institution of national importance in the field of healthcare. AIIMS Entrance Exam for MBBS
Till 2019, the AIIMS institute had its own entrance exam and a separate admission process for MBBS. Since 2020, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has changed its policy and conducts the NEET exam to get admission in all MBBS colleges, including AIIMS for MBBS, across India. NEET is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam.
Every year, the NTA conducts the NEET exam in May, where admission to the AIIMS depends on NEET exam scores and the centralised NEET counselling process. The cutoff marks to get admission in AIIMS institutes are much higher in comparison with other MBBS institutes. More than 20 lakh students appear in the NEET exam every year, while the exam primarily tests students from 11th and 12th-level Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects based on the NCERT syllabus. Check the updated NEET 2026 syllabus to prepare, with a target to get admission in the AIIMS institute.
Admission Process in AIIMS for MBBS
The admission process to pursue MBBS from AIIMS is a multi-staged process. If any NEET aspirant wants to get admission in the MBBS course from the AIIMS institute, then he/she should successfully participate in the following step-by-step process:
1. Registering and Clearing NEET Exam 2026:
The first step a student can take to get admission for MBBS in the AIIMS institute is to register for the NEET exam and clear it with the required cutoff marks. The registration process for the NEET 2026 exam was from 8 February 2026 to 11 March 2026. Now the exam will be conducted on 3rd May 2026, where students will have to get more than 620 marks at least to have a possibility of getting admission in AIIMS.
The cutoff marks of AIIMS institutes are generally higher due to high-level competition and limited availability of MBBS seats. NEET division experts at Matrix Academy suggest that its students focus on targeting more than 650+ marks out of 720 to get admission in AIIMS institute, while top AIIMS institutes like AIIMS Delhi might require 700+ marks. The NEET 2026 exam preparation should be based on mastering NCERT concepts and practising extensively. Matrix Academy advises focusing on the top ranks (under AIR 1000) for top AIIMS institutes like AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Bhopal, and AIIMS Rishikesh.
Note: Know about crucial NEET 2026 exam day guidelines and release date of NEET 2026 admit card to avoid any mistakes for the upcoming exam, so you can secure your dream of getting admission to the desired AIIMS institute.
2. MCC Counselling Process Registration: The second stage to get admission in AIIMS institute for MBBS after the result announcement is successfully registering for the NEET 2026 counselling process conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The suggested crucial tips for the AIIMS counselling process are as follows-
- The NEET aspirant must participate in the AIQ category counselling by MCC, which conducts counselling for 15% seats across India, combining AIIMS MBBS seats.
- When selecting MBBS colleges during the choice filling stage, choose the desired AIIMS institutes as your primary choice. There is no limitation on choosing the maximum number of colleges during the counselling process. Your choice should be based on ranking.
- The overall chance of getting an MBBS seat in the AIIMS institute depends on your NEET score, seat availability, and college choice filled during counselling.
3. MBBS Seat Allotment
In this stage, the MCC will announce seat allotment results by considering factors like NEET rank, college preferences, and seat availability. If you get an MBBS seat allotted by MCC, then you have to decide whether to accept or participate in further rounds for better options.
4. Final Reporting & Fee Submission
This is the final stage to get admission in the AIIMS institute, where a student will submit the admission fee and all the documents required for the verification process at the allotted institute.
AIIMS Eligibility Criteria for MBBS
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has very strict guidelines regarding NEET 2026 eligibility criteria for admission to AIIMS institutes. We suggest that every NEET 2026 aspirant consider the following eligibility criteria before applying for admission to AIIMS institutes.
1. Entrance Exam Criteria: A student must clear the NEET 2026 exam with a minimum cutoff mark. Check the expected NEET 2026 cut-off marks to get more clarity about the admission criteria of MBBS institutes.
2. Age Criteria: According to the NTA, there is no restriction on the upper age limit, but the minimum age of a candidate to apply for admission in the AIIMS should be at least 17 years old as of 31st December of the admission year. For example, if you are applying for admission through the NEET exam 2026, then your age should be at least 17 years as of 31st December 2026.
3. Allowed Attempts: The NTA does not restrict the maximum number of attempts to get admission in the AIIMS institute.
4. Educational Criteria with Minimum Marks: A student should have passed or be appearing in 12th class with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English from a recognised board. Do not worry, if you have math in 12th, you have to take Biology as an additional subject. Category-wise minimum marks required in 12th class to get admission in the AIIMS institute are:
- General: 60%
- OBC/SC/ST: 50%
- PwD: 45%
5. Nationality: Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs, and foreign nationals are eligible. However, some admission rules may be slightly different for foreign category candidates.
So, students who want admission in the AIIMS institute for MBBS should fulfil the above-mentioned eligibility criteria for the upcoming NEET 2026 exam. Check the NEET 2026 Admit card and NEET 2026 City Intimation Slip release date to not miss any important deadline from the National Testing Agency (NTA).

For this, you have to cover all your weak areas by regularly practising them because each mark is important while targeting the AIIMS institute. You can regularly practice by smartly attempting the NEET mock tests, which improves conceptual clarity over rote learning under real NEET exam conditions.
1. Target to Score 700+ Marks with Mock Test Practice:
Matrix Academy knows that if a student wants to get admission in AIIMS institute, then preparation is strictly done to score 700+ marks in NEET exam. And for this, constant practice is very crucial because every single mark is important while targeting the AIIMS institute. This is where attempting the NEET mock tests becomes very crucial.

Matrix Physics faculty Madan Haritwal Sir, believes that mock tests are a crucial part of comprehensive NEET exam preparation. Understanding strategies to increase marks in mock tests will not only improve performance in mock tests but will also directly impact main examination. It is followed that after each test, expert faculty provides feedback to individual students on each mistake to eliminate the scope for future mistakes.
2 Prioritizing NEET Exam High-Weightage Chapters:
If you are targeting AIIMS institute, you should excel in every chapter/topic of the NEET exam because you have to focus on scoring 700+ marks. But to begin with, you can prioritize high-weightage chapters of the NEET 2026 exam in all 3 subjects, such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. It ultimately increases your performance in Mock tests and boosts your confidence and also helps in maintaining accuracy, so you can score maximum marks with conceptual clarity.
Experts suggest that before your teacher starts a particular topic in class, you can try to solve PYQs. This way you will understand and highlight important topics before reading the whole chapter. This also helps in converting passive reading into active learning to develop conceptual clarity.
3. Practice with NCERT + Matrix Academy’s Comprehensive Study Materials:
A top-level NEET exam preparation should be done on an advanced level where you combine the NCERT and highly researched study materials, such as Matrix 3-tier research-based modules, Daily Practice Papers (DPPs), revision test series, daily test series, and practice papers. 80-90% NEET syllabus is from NCERT books, which is why we say that NCERT is enough for NEET 2026, while the remaining advanced level 10-15% can be covered with these study materials. Matrix Academy’s course materials are specifically designed to create a strong foundation to solve advanced-level topics/questions.
4. Study with Structured Revision:
Revision is the key to remembering complex topics, where you can practice with weekly and monthly revision schedules to target AIIMS institutes with higher marks. At Matrix, our NEET aspirants regularly practice with quick, short revision notes, mistake register, chapter-wise formula sheets, and revising the NCERT line by line. This ultimately improves accuracy in the final exam to score high marks for the AIIMS institute.
Our NEET Chemistry faculty, Birbal Maan Sir, identifies that every year the NEET exam has a good number of assertion, conceptual clarity, and statement-based questions with high weightage. So, they recommend regularly practising these types of questions to improve critical thinking and NEET 2026 exam score by targeting AIIMS institutes.
