AIIMS Entrance Exam for MBBS

Till 2019, the AIIMS institute had its own entrance exam and a separate admission process for MBBS. Since 2020, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has changed its policy and conducts the NEET exam to get admission in all MBBS colleges, including AIIMS for MBBS, across India. NEET is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam.

Every year, the NTA conducts the NEET exam in May, where admission to the AIIMS depends on NEET exam scores and the centralised NEET counselling process. Admission Process in AIIMS for MBBS

The admission process to pursue MBBS from AIIMS is a multi-staged process. If any NEET aspirant wants to get admission in the MBBS course from the AIIMS institute, then he/she should successfully participate in the following step-by-step process:

1. Registering and Clearing NEET Exam 2026:

The first step a student can take to get admission for MBBS in the AIIMS institute is to register for the NEET exam and clear it with the required cutoff marks. The registration process for the NEET 2026 exam was from 8 February 2026 to 11 March 2026. Now the exam will be conducted on 3rd May 2026, where students will have to get more than 620 marks at least to have a possibility of getting admission in AIIMS.

The cutoff marks of AIIMS institutes are generally higher due to high-level competition and limited availability of MBBS seats. MCC Counselling Process Registration: The second stage to get admission in AIIMS institute for MBBS after the result announcement is successfully registering for the NEET 2026 counselling process conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The suggested crucial tips for the AIIMS counselling process are as follows-

• The NEET aspirant must participate in the AIQ category counselling by MCC, which conducts counselling for 15% seats across India, combining AIIMS MBBS seats.
• When selecting MBBS colleges during the choice filling stage, choose the desired AIIMS institutes as your primary choice. There is no limitation on choosing the maximum number of colleges during the counselling process. Your choice should be based on ranking.
• The overall chance of getting an MBBS seat in the AIIMS institute depends on your NEET score, seat availability, and college choice filled during counselling.

3. MBBS Seat Allotment

In this stage, the MCC will announce seat allotment results by considering factors like NEET rank, college preferences, and seat availability. If you get an MBBS seat allotted by MCC, then you have to decide whether to accept or participate in further rounds for better options.

4. Final Reporting & Fee Submission

This is the final stage to get admission in the AIIMS institute, where a student will submit the admission fee and all the documents required for the verification process at the allotted institute.

AIIMS Eligibility Criteria for MBBS

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has very strict guidelines regarding NEET 2026 eligibility criteria for admission to AIIMS institutes. We suggest that every NEET 2026 aspirant consider the following eligibility criteria before applying for admission to AIIMS institutes.

1. Entrance Exam Criteria: A student must clear the NEET 2026 exam with a minimum cutoff mark. Check the expected NEET 2026 cut-off marks to get more clarity about the admission criteria of MBBS institutes.

2. Age Criteria: According to the NTA, there is no restriction on the upper age limit, but the minimum age of a candidate to apply for admission in the AIIMS should be at least 17 years old as of 31st December of the admission year. For example, if you are applying for admission through the NEET exam 2026, then your age should be at least 17 years as of 31st December 2026.

3. Allowed Attempts: The NTA does not restrict the maximum number of attempts to get admission in the AIIMS institute.

4. Educational Criteria with Minimum Marks: A student should have passed or be appearing in 12^th class with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English from a recognised board. Do not worry, if you have math in 12^th, you have to take Biology as an additional subject. Category-wise minimum marks required in 12^th class to get admission in the AIIMS institute are:

• General: 60%
• OBC/SC/ST: 50%
• PwD: 45%

5. Nationality: Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs, and foreign nationals are eligible. However, some admission rules may be slightly different for foreign category candidates.
